Royalton White Sands – A Trip Report

Resort Overview Overview

Recently a client contacted me looking for a tropical getaway with her immediate family, and her mother and mother’s husband. They were looking for something that was nice, yet affordable. Royalton White Sands seemed to fit that bill.

Royalton White Sands is a family friendly all-inclusive resort with “Luxury Accommodations” approximately 40 minutes east of Sangster International Airport (Montego Bay), just beyond the cruise port town of Falmouth. The resort shares it’s beach and amenities with sister resort, Royalton Blue Waters, offering an incredible variety of restaurants, bars and activities.

The resort offers tremendous value in the crowded Jamaican all inclusive market, usually pricing well below it’s competitors, Beaches (a Sandals brand), Azul Beach Resorts, among others. With premium liquors, kids club, a la cart dining included, water park and a quality beach, this is a great resort for trips with extended family, each having varying budgets.

  • 352 Guest Rooms and Suites
  • All-In Connectivity™ with free high-speed Wi-Fi resort wide
  • Sports Event Guarantee
  • Non-motorized watersports
  • Unlimited reservation-free dining
  •  Premium drinks and handcrafted cocktails
  • Supervised programming for children and teens (ages 4+)
  • 24 hour room service
  • Waterpark
  • Plus shared facilities with Royalton Blue Waters next door

The Diamond Club

Like many other resort brands in this market segment, Royalton offers two “classes” of service, the standard luxury rooms in addition to those in the Diamond Club. The biggest selling point for the Diamond Club is the expedited check in, private lounge, butler service and expanded room service menus.

Many of these rooms include premium views and locations over their luxury counterparts, but the rooms themselves tend to have nearly identical interiors.

  • Butler service
  • Preferred room locations
  • Selection of in-suite liquors
  • Preferential reservations in à la carte restaurants
  • Exclusive Diamond Club™ beach area with waiter service
  • Distinctive wrist bracelet
  • Personalized check-in and check-out
  • Hors d‘oeuvres and snacks including decadent desserts in the Diamond Club™ Lounge
  • Upgraded room service menu
  • Selection of pillows from The Royal Spa pillow menu
  • Discounts on spa treatments and beauty services
The Diamond Club Presidential One Bedroom Suite.

Our reviewer stayed in a Diamond Club Presidential One Bedroom suite, while her mother stayed in a Diamond Club Luxury Room with Ocean views. Both rooms included butler service and expedited check-in among other Diamond Club amenities.

The Review

Was there any special reason you and your family decided to take this trip?
No, just trying to escape winter for a bit.

Who did you travel with?
Husband, daughter and parents.

How was the trip from the Airport to the resort?
The transportation was easy to find, got us on board quickly, were friendly and the ride was short.

What were your first impressions of the resort?
Beautiful!

What  were your overall impressions of your room (Luxury Presidential Jacuzzi Ocean View One Bedroom Diamond Club)?
The room was a great size. Having a 1/2 bath in the sitting room area was a nice touch. I liked having a separate room from the bed to hang out. Although we were usually on the balcony if we were in the room. The huge balcony was the best part!

Do you feel the upgrade to the Diamond Club was worth the price for this trip?
Not really. We could have done without the upgrade. The Butler was wonderful but we felt pressured to make up things to do. They were very attentive but didn’t really need anything.

What were your impressions on the kid/family offerings at this resort?
We did not use the kids club.

How was the food?
There was a nice variety. I give it 3.5/4 out of 5 depending on the restaurant. The atmosphere of all the restaurants was great!

What was your favorite part of this resort experience?
Definitely the pools. There were plenty of options. We didn’t get bored.

What does this resort need to improve on?
Maintenance of the rooms. There were things that could have been fixed. There was a musty smell and our shower leaked.

Would you recommend this resort to your friends and why?
The staff were great. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. We ran into the same people day after day. They seemed genuinely happy to be there. The resort was beautiful and not too big. It didn’t feel overwhelming.

Would you return?
